Oceanic Riptide - Collage Print
This artwork was formed by hand cutting digital prints of skyscapes and seascapes into small panels and layering them into a spiral collage.
Inspired by the world around her, Rachel investigates the immensity of the ocean, how it flows and pushes against the land and the sky, exploring physical and metaphysical boundaries, parameters and the spaces that we inhabit.
This artwork was created during one of many COVID lockdowns during 2021 and considers how whilst the pandemic is impacting all communities around the world and our lives feel like they are standing still, the ocean continues to flow, the birds continue to fly and the the trees continue to grow taller still.
This phenomenon reminds Rachel of how when someone you love passes away and you feel like the world will stop because it couldn’t possibly continue without the presence of someone so pivotal, yet it continues to spin and move around you while you navigate the heaviness of grief.
